David Grosso with Salt sat down with Joanne Lin, Venture Investor at Newark Venture Partners, earlier this month to discuss an up and coming hot spot, Newark, New Jersey. Sitting comfortably at the northern tip of New Jersey, it has become a hub for the young person population at the center of esteemed universities, local organic food, a major airport, and new infrastructure. But, most importantly, it is affordable.
Newark falls under the new opportunity zones incentive, and the boom of small businesses is attracting the younger generations. “Opportunity zones are this new legislation that has come into play to activate small businesses and these 8,700 zip codes across the US, Newark is one of those regions,” Lin said.
“I feel like Newark is the story of a lot of cities right now, they’re there, they have a lot to offer, and they’ve been ignored for generations and I think our generation might be the one to change that,” Grosso pointed out. “There’s a great just culture that’s true to Newark,” Lin responded, “we just want to highlight that, amplify it, and make sure people know.”
