How has parenting changed over the decades? Are parents nicer or meaner?
Comedian Tom Shillue, a regular on Jimmy Fallon and Fox, joined our hosts Carrie Sheffield and Clay Aiken to discuss parenting, behavior patterns, making out with girls and his new book “Mean Dads for a Better America: The Generous Rewards of an Old-Fashioned Childhood.”
Tom said that helicopter parenting has become more common, and today’s kids have less freedom than his generation did. “When you have that tougher, hard line approach — the tough love, you grow up more prepared. You can deal with mean people. We live in a mean world!” Tom said. “I feel like I can deal with adults better now because of the way I was raised.”
