Nowadays, it feels like being stuck at home prevents you from growing your network. A recent survey revealed that a whopping 85% of jobs come from networking. So, in the end, it’s all about who you know, whether that’s old college friends or new colleagues. Hosts David Grasso and Julia Sun share some helpful tips on how you can grow your network while being remote!
How to grow a network
Places like LinkedIn, Reddit and Slack are great places for you to grow your network because there is a wide variety of people you can connect with. It is an opportunity to meet cool people that are either the same age, older or even younger. It’s all about what you are trying to achieve when growing your network. You also can take it a step further and reconnect with your alma mater! Getting back in touch with your college can be super beneficial for you. They might have outside resources that can help you expand your network. Also, old classmates may have something up their sleeve to help you out. You never know until you try!
Don’t hide if you are unemployed
Another thing is if you are unemployed, do not hide. Most people hide when they are unemployed, which is something you definitely don’t want to do. The connections you possibly can build may eventually steer you in the right direction or help you get the job you want. And the relationships you create in your network may not have something for you now, but you never know what the future can hold. Lastly, make sure you pay it forward because you can be the one that returns the favor for others.
