On day two of his ultramarathon across China’s Gobi desert, Dion Leonard noticed a small stray running alongside him. But what started as a brief interaction turned into an “unbreakable bond.”
The dog, now appropriately named Gobi, accompanied Dion for 77 miles of his race. “She chose me, and she wanted to be with me,” Dion said. When the marathon finished, though, Gobi got lost in China for 10 days. Dion’s mission to reunite with the pup is the subject of his book “Finding Gobi,” which was released on Tuesday.
“Finding Gobi was one of the most difficult things that I’ve ever done, but her finding me was one of the best,” Dion said.
