The Ultimate Dream – Travel the World and Keep Your Remote Job

How can you make working from home more exciting? Try the same work but a different location. No, not a new coffee shop; try a new country. That’s been the lifestyle of Jubril Agoro for a decade, as he’s been nonstop working and traveling the globe. Of course, the lure of adventure drove him to travel the world, but he also wanted more value for his money. A $3,000 apartment in windy Chicago would only cost him $300 in another country such as Colombia or Thailand. So just for a few minutes, don’t talk yourself out of Agoro’s lifestyle. Hear how he does it, and you may get the inspiration you need to take your Zoom calls somewhere more exotic than your living room.

It’s not a rush; it’s a lifestyle

You may wonder how you’d get any work done in a vacation destination. Most casual travelers have experienced only the rush of wanting to see, eat and do everything. But when you have a month or two, your lifestyle becomes almost normal. Agoro sets a routine and works Monday through Friday. If he feels adventurous after work and on the weekends, he explores. To make his travels feel more like a lifestyle and less like a rushed vacation, Agoro prioritizes community. He researches how close his Airbnb is to gyms, co-working spaces, restaurants and more. So, with a little self-discipline and research, it’s possible to work from home in the seemingly most distracting places.

Get the most bang for your buck

Agoro not only researches location but also quality. “No matter how much money you have, you always want to get the most value for your money,” he says. Ask questions to potential Airbnb hosts, especially questions about internet speed. We all know how frustrating it is to work in a place with dial-up-like speeds, so Agoro always makes sure the speed is at least 15 megabytes. Because no matter where you are, you can’t get away from Slack, Skype or all other forms of staff communication. Those features of remote work-life will stick around. But wouldn’t the digital nomad life make them a little more bearable? BRB, checking flights now!
