Try Virtual Networking During Quarantine

Photographer: William Hook

Networking can be exhausting. If you’ve had a long day at work, talking to people about work is draining. And small talk is your worst nightmare. Networking also can be expensive. Paying for an event is a gamble that you will meet the right people. But everyone says that networking is necessary. Personal connections lead to many opportunities, from better jobs to business partners. But meeting people in person isn’t possible now. With the global pandemic, people are working from home with only technology to connect them to others. But what if technology was all you needed? Jason Craparo founded Hio Social for this reason. This mobile app is a virtual networking platform. Craparo chats with Bold TV about the app and how it’s a good alternative to traditional in-person meetings.

How does virtual networking work?

Virtual networking helps you find interesting people or networking events in your area. How does Hio work? First, you upload your contact information. Then, you upload a 30-second elevator pitch video to let everyone know who you are and what you do. If you find someone interesting, you can watch their 30-second pitch and decide if you’d like to talk to them. Then, you can have one-on-one live chats for a maximum of seven minutes. Also, if you’re interested in events, you can host your own virtual event on the app.

Cut down on wasted time

Building a network virtually helps you cut through the noise. At in-person events, talking to the wrong people wastes time. You may go through five conversations before you find someone you get along with. But networking online gives you a glimpse into the connection before you reach out. You decide where you spend your time. This may be the perfect time to try out connecting online. Who knows when traditional meet-ups will return as the norm?
