“If the price of our unity is tragedy, that’s a mighty steep price,” Rabbi Brad Hirschfield, president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, told Bold TV in response to the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting where 11 lives were lost.
The fundamental step to healing, he said, is to focus on assuming responsibility rather than blaming one another. Blame, he said, “always looks outward and is typically about fighting over the past.”
Though Hirschfield said he doesn’t believe there is a direct link between the Pittsburgh attack and the Oval Office, he still hopes people with power are mindful about what they say, as “every hateful act in history has been set up with hateful words.”
