I Downloaded an App to See Who Unfriended Me on Facebook, the Results Were Surprising

Facebook is unquestionably the superhighway of our social media existence.

Many of us depend on the website for a number of uses. Beyond communicating with your friends and family, and reading your favorite news on your feed, Facebook serves an entirely different purpose — establishing a comfortable level of connectivity with people from your past.

From afar, you are able to surreptitiously digitally spy on people you want to keep track of but have no earthly intention of meeting up with. From ex-lovers to ex-best friends, to workmates that you probably don’t miss, Facebook is the tie that binds you to a wide array of people that you’d loathe running into randomly.

This category of less-than-desirable folks are the ones most likely to unfriend you. Because we have so many friends, we often don’t notice we’ve been eliminated from their personally curated list of cyber colleagues until a happenstance click leads to the revelation that you have been deemed unworthy of being a Facebook friend.

If you’ve closely monitored the number of friends you have, you’ve probably noticed that your numbers can sometimes go down. Then the thought dawns upon you, who on Earth has the gall to unfriend me? Without the right technology, it’s sometimes hard to identify who kicked you off their Facebook friend island.

Fortunately, the solution to your problem comes in app form. I downloaded an app that’s been around for quite a while called Who Unfriended Me for my Droid phone. So far, I’ve identified a few people who legitimately unfriended me, and none of them have been very surprising. The app is super useful for this function, to keep track of who bid you adieu and make sure you act super awkwardly should you ever cross paths in the near future.

Interestingly, the bulk of the changes to my friend’s list has been an entirely different phenomenon. There are about a dozen people who I know that deactivate and reactivate their Facebook all the time. That’s right, they go deep into the underbelly of settings on a daily basis and turn the whole thing off. This seemingly insane behavior is documented by this app, and everyone doing this should be aware that it’s easy to keep track of your erratic Facebook behavior.

I have no clue as to why someone would deactivate and reactivate their Facebook account multiple times in one day. The worst offender on my account is a former small-town mayor who likes to turn his Facebook on and off several times a day. Sounds like someone has conflicting feelings about the world’s favorite social network.

If you’re interested in keeping tabs on changes to your friends list, download Who Unfriended Me here (For Android).
