Want to Drive Urban Innovation? Come to Harlem Oct. 26 for Silicon Harlem Next-Gen Tech Conference

If you’re passionate about helping grow innovation and opportunities in our urban communities, I hope you’ll join us in Harlem, a powerful epicenter of African-American and Latino culture, for the Silicon Harlem Next-Gen Tech Conference, which aims to put people at the center of innovation and advanced technology. Silicon Harlem is celebrating its 5th conference anniversary, and this year’s theme is “ReThink Every Thing.” It will feature a variety of sessions that focus on the tech-enabled future, and it’s an opportunity to get informed and share your experience on how communities prepare for an advanced, technical innovation-driven life.

As a passionate volunteer with Silicon Harlem, I’m excited to join the conference as a panelist on the future of communication. Silicon Harlem was founded with one simple yet revolutionary goal: To transform Harlem and other urban markets into technology and innovation hubs to fully engage in the digital economy. Our key value is “Everyone Deserves a Connection.” This includes establishing co-working spaces, gigabit infrastructure, securing investment capital, hosting monthly meetups and an annual conference. As Silicon Harlem’s mission states: “We have an opportunity to lower if not eradicate crime in Harlem, the potential to lower unemployment rates, increase quality education opportunities and grow jobs. Help us Transform Harlem into a Tech and Innovation Hub.”

Over the past four years, I have been very active in volunteering to help Silicon Harlem, a community promoting urban renewal and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) careers, particularly among underserved communities of color.

At Silicon Harlem, we believe that everyone deserves a connection and that everything will be connected. The paradox of our interconnected world is the loss of human connection to one another. As we spend more and more of our time online, our society is struggling to redefine our relationship to community and what it means to interact with our friends, neighbors, and loved ones.

The Silicon Harlem Next-Gen Conference is a way to plug-in to each other and discuss the various changes that are creating challenges but increasing future opportunities for all. Some key topics will include, Internet of Things, enhanced humans, augment reality, and tech enabled homes. The digital change is moving fast and its vital that we are all prepared to participate in the economic impact and growth. Let’s come together and ensure that the future is designed for everyone to contribute.
